I recently ordered Friends – The Complete Series from Amazon as a present for A. I had planned on buying this a couple months ago. At that time, I could get this complete set for under $200. My indecisiveness got the better of me and I stalled until a couple weeks ago. To my surprise, the product was OUT OF STOCK and the price had increased to over $200! I had to do a couple quickie “If I buy it at Amazon, will it be cheaper than buying it instore at Target?” and “If I buy the individual seasons, would it be cheaper than buying the complete set?”. (Yes, I like spending less and getting more.) I finally settled on getting it through Amazon, added it to my cart, and waited for it to come. (As a side note, I also purchased the just released Almost Alice by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. My obsession with this can be viewed in my other post.) To my surprise, my order arrived earlier than the estimated date by four days(!), which was a surprise since I chose the Free Super Saving Shipping over paying for shipping and Almost Alice was supposed to released the next day so I wasn’t expecting it to arrive earlier than the release day. This, however, is not the reason why the people at AmazonHelp are my friends.
When I opened Friends and started to watch it, I was completely satisfied until I noticed that disk 9 was missing. Upon this discovery, I emailed the people at AmazonHelp and explained to them this problem. I received a response within 24 hours and was notified that a replacement shipment would be sent out to me and all I had to do was return the defective Friends product free of charge at a UPS drop-off location or UPS store. While waiting for the replacement to arrive, I continued to watch Friends and noticed another problem in the original shipment product. One of the disks played incorrect episodes! I sent another email to AmazonHelp to notify them of this new problem. The people at AmazonHelp, though, misinterpreted my email and thought that the replacement was defective. As a result, they issued a $10 certificate to be used for my next Amazon order. Being the honest person that I am, I replied to them to let them know that I was happy with the replacement and that the two problems were with the original Friends product I received. I didn’t want the $10 certificate for just reporting a problem. AmazonHelp thought otherwise and let me keep the $10 for a future purchase and thanked me for my honesty.
In short, I got a quick replacement, $10 credit, and learned that the people at AmazonHelp are helpful like (most) friends.
