Cute print. Pretty color. Nicely hidden pockets. Perfect dress, right? Wrong. Everytime I am at Urban Outfitters, I am always drawn to this Kimchi Blue Knit Print Shirt Dress. I love the style of the dress with its empire waist and minimal detailing. Nice and simple. Maybe it’s because of this that I am hypnotized into trying this dress on every time I am in store. However, once I slip the dress over my head, I come back to reality. It might be due to the size I choose or just simply me, but the feelings I have for this dress when it hangs on the rack does not translate into the same feelings I have when it hangs on my body, which is a major disappointment. According to my shopping mate, the dress “looks like it is made from heavy fabric and just sags” on me. If you do decide to listen to the postive reviews and buy this dress, just keep in mind that there is an elastic band in the back portion of the empire waist. This allows you to slip the dress on. However, either it was the location of the elastic band or the length of it, but I felt a bit uncomfortable trying to squeeze through this dress to get it on. You do not want to buy a larger size (unless it looks flattering) to avoid this problem, but just know that the problem did exist for me. Instead, I would make sure to choose the perfect size to make the dress fit nicely even if it means going a size up or down a size. I wish you better looks with this dress than I had.
In store, this dress was on sale for $19.99, but online it is on sale for $39.99 (origianlly $58.00). The dress also comes in three different prints: black ditsy, mauve feather (pictured), and navy thistles.

As much as I want to expand my wardrobe, I do have to have good judgment on what to buy and what not to buy. One case in point is the Rendez-Vous by Paul & Joe Sister Voile Top at Urban Outfitters. As nice as this top looked when I picked it up, it did not flatter my appearance at all. The shirt was loose fitting and that was the problem. From the front, it looked as though I could pull off the shirt. The org flower print looked nice and the shirt was not too dramatic. (The shirt also comes in another print — pink flowers.) However, once I turned to the side, the shirt gave me that pregnant look, which I was not. I guess that’s what is meant by the “oversized fit” description online. The top also was somewhat translucent, which I tend to avoid unless the shirt is simply amazing. In the end, I hung this shirt back up and moved on without any regrets.
In store, this top is on sale for $19.99, but the sale price online is $54.99 (originally $78.00).

Winter is coming to an end and spring is just around the corner. What better way to celebrate the change of seasons than with a new dress! Perfect for this occasion is the AE Knit Party Dress from American Eagle. Online and in person, this dress looks very nice. I think the print adds a little something extra to the dress otherwise it ends up looking like AE dresses of the past. The dress has shoulder ties, which is a bit different from a regular dress, and there is a deep V in the front and the back. For me, the bottom of the dress came down to just above my knees so it was not too short or too long, just right. In addition, the dress fit comfortably and was soft, but the $34.50 retail price does not justify itself. I’m just going to wait for summertime to buy this dress when I know the price will drop.
UPDATE:
This dress has hit the clearance page. It is now $24.95!

Three different patterns make up this Kimchi Blue Mixed Printed Henley giving it a unique look. Like the reviews said online, the pictures do not convey the vividness of the colors that make up this shirt. Somehow, the colors “pop” in person. The shirt is loose fitting, light, and comfortable making it perfect for spring or even warm winter days if you are in California. Although it looks to hang wonderfully on the model, I personally felt that the shirt fit me like a muumuu. To minimize the muumuu effect, I paired this shirt with an Ecote Macrame Leather Belt, which seemed to solve the problem and gave it an up-to-date vintage look. Although I did not end up keeping it (a decision I now somewhat regret), A bought this shirt in-store at Urban Outfitters for $19.99 (online sale price $34.99, originally $48.00).

Cute, right? That’s exactly what I though as I browsed online at AmericanEagle.com and came across the Women’s AE Floral Vines Halter Cami. It currently retails for $24.50, but I’d say give it several weeks and the price may start to drop (as with most items). I actually went in-store to try this top on to make a mental note on my size in case the price dropped dramatically online or if any good discounts codes were available. I normally wear small to medium (and sometimes even large) depending on the type of shirt, the material of the shirt, and overall what size looks best on me. With this top, I opted to go for a small as the material was loose and not clingy. It is light and, in my opinion, great for spring/summer. The only negative comment I have about this shirt is the bottom white portion is a bit too see through/sheer for my liking. I would not say that it is a major reason not to buy the top, but, in my case, it was reason enough not to get it at the current price in addition to getting 30% off from A’s AE All-Access Pass Savings Reward. (It’s tough economic times so I might as well be getting something good for what I’m paying for.)
As a side note, AE.com does have another version of this top in solid colors without the floral print, the Women’s AE Halter Cami. The current retail price of the solid halter cami is $19.50 and it comes in Harbor Blue, Yellow Shine, Wild Violet, or Black. Personally, the price is a bit on the high side for just a solid halter cami and I think the floral print is what makes this top a bit more special from any other halter cami tops.
UPDATE:
The solid version of this shirt is now on clearance for $14.95! However, only Black (Large) and Harbor Blue (Large and Xlarge) are available.
Unfortunately, the floral version of this shirt is no longer available. It might still be instore though.

I was alerted to the Ecote Patchwork Yoke Top by A when it first hit the sale page on UrbanOutfitters.com. I made a mental note (and an addition to cart) to keep tabs on it just in case Urban Outfitters decided to have a promo for free shipping on any purchase rather than just purchases over $150. This top had been elusive to me in store as well, that is, until A shrieked “It’s here!” during one of our recent stops at The Lab. I turned and it was true. In A’s hands was the Ecote Patchwork Yoke Top in Emperor Purple and Seaweed. After a quick dash to the dressing room to make sure that this top looked nice on me as it did on the model online, I chose Emperor Purple (looked better with my skin tone) and made the $9.99 purchase (originally $48).
This top is very comfortable and perfect for summer. It feels light weight even though there are two layers. I would not suggest buying a larger size than you normally wear as the arm holes are larger than normal t-shirt arm holes. There also are pockets on both sides of the top. These pockets are inconspicuous so they will no detract from the overall look of the top. I should mention that this shirt is somewhat of a bubble top due to the thin elastic band at the bottom of the shirt. I still love it though.

Urban Outfitters (UO) was having a sale for a sale (extra 25% off sale items) online this past week and I jumped aboard. I’ve had my eye out on this Coincidence & Chance Racerback Sweater Vest for quite some time since it hit the sale page, but I was hesitant to make the purchase because of the shipping rates ($6 for purchases ranging from $0-$49.99 – I might as well make the trip instore for the purchase instead). However, with this sale for a sale happening only online, I figured that I might as well “add to cart” and make the purchase. The shipping cost, though, was still making me hesitant because I would end up paying more online than instore even with the 25% off. But wait! The dilemma lied in the fact that I couldn’t find this vest in-store. So in order to balance out the cost of shipping with our savings (or at least to justify that making this purchase would be a good thing in the grander scheme of things), A convinced me that the Deep V Floral Burnout Tee was a “must have” and would be a good complement to our purchase. After deliberating as I do with most online purchases, I gave in to A and checked out.

The items shipped out on 1/02/09 and I received my UO purchase in my mailbox on 1/07/09. (The purchase was made on 12/31/08.) I haven’t worn the vest out yet, but I do like it and the tee feels very soft and comfy. My only complaint about this transaction is that UO should coincide a sale for a sale with a promo for free shipping on any purchase (and not just on purchases over $200), especially with the current economic climate. (Also, UO should not trick us with subject emails that say “Free Shipping” when in fact it’s only for purchases over $200.)
Update: I have worn this vest time and time again and I am never disappointed by the way it complements my outfit. This tee remains to be soft after several washes.
Note: This post was previously filed under the title “I Got My Vest! (and a tee)”
